We are located in San Antonio Purulhá; a town in the Region of Baja Verapaz, Guatemala. Purulhá is a rural community marked by poverty, malnutrition, illiteracy, and lack of adequate health care.

Yo’o is a non-profit organization that works with the populations of Guatemala. We believe in education and community development. Our mission is to provide opportunities for poor families and their children in the town of Purulhá. Our community center serves approximately 2,200 plus school age children and their families.

Our approach

Programs are currently housed in the “Licenciado Bernardo Lemus Mendoza Library”, located in downtown Purulhá. Our programming targets four critical community needs: education, literacy, health and nutrition, and community development.

The Bernardo Lemus Mendoza Library serves as a resource, and is the focal point of the community. Unique to the Baja Verapaz region, the Bernardo Lemus Mendoza library provides an academic enrichment center, and gathering space for local youth and their families.
