School tutoring
Tutoring is offered twice a day; once in the morning and once in the afternoon to accommodate the different school schedules in our community. Quality, self-teaching is possible thanks to our volunteer Youth Leaders, who are able to help other children with their school work. This help is supervised by a teacher, and sometimes a volunteer from our community.
Having a teacher to help students understand complex subjects can make their learning easier, and show students that they have the support of their community.
School supplies giveaway
We collect donated school supplies that are new, or used, but in good conditions. These supplies help to give the children of Purulhá better educational opportunities. The campaign for collecting school supplies usually takes place during the months of October and November of each year.
The collection of items usually occurs in, but is not limited to Guatemala City. We receive items from all over the country and even overseas. Also, in addition to private individuals, some companies that sell school supplies have become donors to our program.
Academic scholarships
Economic support scholarships guarantee the recipients school supplies and other requirements that they need to successfully complete their school year. However, this kind of support does not guarantee the complete coverage of their school expenses, but rather a measure of support without skirting their parents’ responsibilities.
Vacation School
In Guatemala school is out during the months of late October until early January. During this period, specifically during October and November of each year, we have our Vacation School. We take advantage of this period to influence in a positive way the children’s integral formation.
