According to data published recently by UNDP for the year 2012, the population of Purulhá had risen to 47,200. The population density is 54 people/km2; composed of 50.4% of women and 49.6% of men (INE 2002, XI population census).
Only 15% of the inhabitants have access to clean water.
Ethnic groups
According to the town’s data, the majority of the population are from ethnic groups such as Q’ueq’chi, Pocom’chi, and a very low percentage of Achi and Ladinos, leaving ethnic margins within the Ladino, without marital mixtures, except on rare occasions.
