The Bernardo Lemus Mendoza Library was founded on December 16, 2011, as part of an honorary and memorial event sponsored by Bernardo Lemus Mendoza’s children. Bernardo Lemus was an outstanding professional and a university professor of strong social values, and a pioneer in the environmental conservation movement of Guatemala. Mendoza was murdered in January 1981 during Guatemala’s civil war.
The Municipal Council named the library “Municipal Library Lic Bernardo Lemus Mendoza”, which was open to the public in March 2012.
